PROJECT OWNER: Jiangsu Art Museum

DESIGNER: Tong ZHANG, Qing CHUN, Yuan YAO, Bai SUN, Wei XIAO

PROFILE: As the first art museum in Chinese modern history, the Old National Art Gallery plans to reopen on her 80th anniversary and an entry pavilion is required.

A curved roof is designed to enclose the existing osmanthus tree like a vase, shaping a flowing space beneath between the guard room, the tree and the column. GRC is used overall and chisel pitched on the surface to imitate the appearance of the artificial stone coating of the main hall. Accompanied by the delicate variations of somberness and brightness of the tree’s shadow and its subtle fragrance, audiences step away from the street hubbub and enter into history and art.
