PROFILE: Seed, is the very normal but most important object in the village.
Mafuyuan, a village in Nanjing, China, is well known because of the seed production. This project is required to renovate two normal village houses into the Tourist center of this village. There are two main architectural ideas in terms of seed carried out in this project:
1)‘seed-yards’: they are created around the building opening for both visitor and villager. The different seeds‘ life cycling, from the seed, growing planting, vegetable to the end into the earth, are presented together with bamboo plaque, a implements for seed, to elaborate the landscape space in these seed-yards.
2)‘seed-window’: the architectural element, window, become the most important agency to present the characteristics of architecture by putting the different size, color, and shape of seeds into the insulating glass. These ‘seed-windows’ not only become the different colorful windows and the typical material of walls, but also creates the different kinds of seed shadow on the floor and walls.
Generally, from normal-seed in the village to the ‘systematicseed’ of the architecture construction, this Seed-House brings the new perception of space, material, shadow and everyday life in the village.
