Ricardo Ruivo Pereira

Ricardo Ruivo is an Associate Professor at the Architecture Internationalization Demonstration School of Southeast University. He earned his Degree and Masters in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), and his PhD at the Architectural Association (AA) in London. Between 2009 and 2011 he served as teaching assistant in Urbanistics at FAUP, worked in its Research Centre on cross-border rural development between Portugal and Spain, and practiced architecture professionally in Portugal. Between 2014 and 2021, he taught at the AA, in the History and Theory programme at undergraduate and Diploma (MArch) levels.

His areas of interest are the historicity of historiographical production in architecture, and the ambiguities and tensions between architectural form, society, and political economy. His research has focused on the history of modern architecture in Portugal, in the political economy of the architecture profession in the late-capitalist West, in the history and Western historiography of architecture in the Soviet Union, and in the role of public planning in modern architecture in the post-colonial Global South. He has published several papers and book chapters, and lectured in Portugal, Britain, Germany, Denmark, and China.
