Research direction: history, theory and heritage conservation of landscape architecture


GU Kai, male, born in 1978, associate professor in Department of Landscape Architecture, School of Architecture, Southeast University. PhD from Discipline of Architectural History and Theory in Southeast University. Member of Professional Committee of Theory and History of Landscape Architecture (Secretariat), Professional Committee of Cultural Landscape, Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture. Researcher of the Key Research Base of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (Southeast University) for the Study of Traditional Wooden Architecture. Member of Editorial Committee of the journal Traditional Chinese Architecture and Gardens. Contributing Editor of the journal Landscape Architecture.

His main research area is history, theory and heritage conservation of landscape architecture, with recent research directions on history of Jiangnan garden in the Ming and Qing period, history of Chinese garden rockery, contemporary craftsmanship of rockery making and garden making, and garden heritage conservation. In recent years, he has been in charge of 2 projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 1 project supported by the Special Research Fund for Doctoral Disciplines in Universities, published 2 books and more than 30 academic papers in domestic and foreign journals, presided over and participated in multiple projects on traditional garden design and conservation.
