    Chen Wei was the Vice Chairman of Architectural Culture Academic Committee, Architectural Society of China, Vice President of the Architectural History Branch of Architectural Society of China. She was also the recipient of the Special government allowance of The State Council of the People's Republic of China in 1992. She was appointed as the Members of the seventh Discipline Assessment Group of Academic Degrees Committee of The State Council of the People's Republic of China and the Expert group of the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the leader of 333 Higher-level Talents Training Project of Jiangsu Province. She was the recipient of the Architectural Education Award of the Architectural Society of China in 2016. In 2021, she was nominated as the master designer of Jiangsu Province.

    She has been teaching in the School of Architecture, Southeast University since 1986 and had taught including courses such as the history of Chinese architecture, the history of gardens of China, and the ancient urban history of China. Her teaching focuses on the Introduction to history of architecture, Research of Yingzao Fashi, Historiography and research methods in architectural history, and other special options in history of architecture now.She was the Visiting Scholar and delivering lectures at Aichi Institute of Technology, University of New South Wales, University of Melbourn, National University of Singapore, Tsinghua University, Peking University, The University of Hong Kong, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

    Her research interest focuses on architectural history, theory, and heritage conservation. Her research seeks to research architectural history, garden history, and urban history in an interdisciplinary manner. She had organized and completed 4 projects sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), she was also organizing and participating 5 projects sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology. She has received national research and teaching and book awards for 8 times and more than 60 times in designing and projects. She has published 5 academic monographs and more than 150 papers. Publications are including Walking on the Canal Line – A study of the Historical Cities and Architecture along the Grand Canal (vol. 1 and Vol. 2); Ten Books of Contemporary Chinese Architectural Historians • Anthology of Architectural History by Chen Wei; The Compendium of Chinese Art Classification • The Compendium of Chinese Architectural Art • Private Garden; Comparative study on the City Walls of Nanjing and Rome(bilingual) and others.

    Her fieldwork and practice in the field concerns the conservation and exhibition of heritage in the urban space. She organized the conservation projects of Nanjing City Wall, the historical conservation and urban design, Porcelain Tower of Nanjing, Conservation planning of Palace of Ming of Nanjing, and Conversation planning of historical sites at Yangzhou, Conversation planning of Imperial Capital of Song Lin’an. Meanwhile, she was also in charge of several projects of architecture and landscape architecture. Works are including Yu Garden of Nanjing, The exhibition project of ‘Gardens of the City’ in the 11th Jiangsu Garden Expo, and House of the City of Literature, etc.
